The freedom to discover

Imagine getting to see our business from the inside, gaining the skills that lead to an engineering career, studying for a recognised qualification... and getting paid for doing it!

Our award-winning Advanced Apprenticeship is the perfect way to kick-start a rewarding career with Tube Lines. This is a structured, four-year scheme that is nationally recognised and includes completing a Level 3 National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) in Engineering. From the first day, you’ll be doing hands-on work and gaining invaluable experience on placements around the business – and of course you’ll have the satisfaction of knowing you’re helping to improve travel in the capital.

During the first year of the programme, you will train in basic skills at a Science, Engineering and Marine Training Authority (SEMTA) qualified centre and work in various departments:

In all these sections, you will gain the knowledge to progress you through your Performing Engineering Operations (PEO) certificate.

You will also attend day release at college to start a two-year National Certificate. After the first year, you will be based in depots, workshops and/or offices around the Jubilee, Northern and Piccadilly lines. There may also be the opportunity to achieve a Higher National Certificate or Foundation Degree.

The strength of our schemes is our commitment to the professional development of our apprentices. You will be assigned a personal training consultant who you’ll meet on a monthly basis to evaluate performance, although they will be constantly on hand to give you help, support and direction.
