Apprentices FAQ

What are your entry requirements?

You must demonstrate commitment, enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.

To apply for an Advanced Apprenticeship, you will however need to:

  • hold or expect to get five GCSE A to C grades including Maths, English and Science (or equivalent)
  • pass the required medical standards
  • demonstrate strong verbal and written communication skills
  • have an aptitude towards civil, electrical or mechanical engineering

To apply for the Fast Track Apprenticeship you will need to:

  • hold or expect to get three GCSE A to C grades including Maths, English and Science (or equivalent)
  • pass the required medical standards
  • demonstrate good verbal and written communication skills
  • have an aptitude towards civil or mechanical engineering

What training and development will I receive?

You will receive both classroom and practical training from your first day.

What salary will I receive?

Your starting salary in 2012 will be at least £15,400

Do I need a work permit?

Yes, you will require the right to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006.

What vacancies are available at which location?

We have offices and depots across London. Every effort will be made for you to work in a location close to your home but you must be prepared to travel.

How long do the schemes last?

The Advanced Apprenticeship (NVQ L3) lasts for 3.5 years if you successfully pass all elements.

The Fast Track Apprenticeship (NVQ L2) will last for up to 2 years

Can I make more than one application?

No, you should only apply once.

How long will it typically take to complete the online application form?

The form should take around 30 minutes to complete.

After I have made an application, what happens next?

Applications are reviewed from the end of March, after which we will get back to you as soon as possible.

What is the social life like at Tube Lines?

Because all apprentices are based in London, there is a strong network within each year intake and across the entire apprentice population - which means you can expect a good time!

When will I start if I am successful?

The apprenticeship programme begins in October this year

Graduates FAQ

What are your entry requirements?

You must have a 2:2 or higher preferably in an Masters level degree, and if you are applying for our engineering scheme your degree must be accredited by the Engineering Council. To check if your degree is accredited, see the Engineering Council website.

What training and development will I receive?

You will receive a full induction into Tube Lines, with full training in the safety and entry requirements for the Tube. You will be paired with a mentor to support and guide you in your development. In addition, you will attend a graduate development programme aimed at developing your management and people skills.

What salary will I receive?

Your starting salary in 2012 will be £26k.

Do I need a work permit?

Yes, you will require the right to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006.

What vacancies are available at which location?

All positions are based in London. Our head office is in Canary Wharf, but you may be required to work at sites around London.

What are the working hours?

The majority of placements will be between normal working hours: Monday to Friday, 9-5. However, occasionally placements will occur at night and weekends, as this is when the bulk of our engineering work occurs.

How long do the schemes last?

Our electrical and mechanical schemes last two years, our civil engineering three years and our commercial scheme two years.

Can I make more than one application?

No, you should only apply for one position in any year.

The form should take around 30 minutes to complete.

After I have made an application, what happens next?

We will be reviewing applications up to the end of January for our first assessment centres. You will receive an acknowledgement of receipt of your application. If you are successful, you will be invited to do some online testing prior to the assessment centres.

What is the social life like at Tube Lines?

Because all graduates are based in London, there is a strong graduate network within each year's intake and across the entire graduate population - which means you can expect a good time!

When will I start if I am successful?

Our graduate scheme begins at the beginning of September each year.
