“I was attracted to Tube Lines as it provided an opportunity to work on a highly influential piece of infrastructure that keeps the capital ticking.”

“The induction was fantastic in giving us familiarity with the various systems in place and we were quickly introduced to the inspiring range of experts we would be working with.

“I was placed within the Operations department which gave me the chance to work on exciting station upgrades.

“This included the reinstatement of the East London Line and the modernisation of a station supervisor’s office in central London. My role in these projects included participating in various meetings as well as liaising with our design engineers and contractors to ensure high standards of design implementation.

“The level of responsibility awarded to us at times was phenomenal to the extent that we would be representing the company to engineering firms who would often assume we were on the graduate programme.

“Throughout the course of the placement we were actively encouraged to partake in a wide range of training courses from health and safety to construction management.

“The support from our colleagues was excellent as they were happy to clarify any questions and explain various procedures used in the industry. They were also quick at realising our skills and when the opportunity arises they gave us the chance to flourish.

“The city's reliability on the tube is so much so that much of the engineering work must be efficiently scheduled to happen during course of the night. The highlight of my career at Tube Lines was overseeing the installation of new LED lighting technology which was installed between the Leicester Square and Covent Gardens underground tunnel. The major challenge that came with this project was scheduling all the resources to complete the implementation while working with all major stakeholders who had interests associated in such a vital tunnel at the heart of London.

“Without the operation of a highly efficient underground network the world capital comes to a standstill, so I always felt as if our work was central to keeping the city moving.

“To thrive in a job I need challenge, responsibility, a great team to work with and the motivation of knowing I am making a positive impact.

“The future for me involves using my incredible experience here to climb further within the industry and eventually become an accredited engineer.

“If there is one thing I would say to interns it would be that Tube Lines offers a first class insight into engineering and how decisions are made in the industry.”
