“Me being an Automotive Engineering student meant I always wanted to work in the Automobile industry in my placement year but after some serious thinking I decided to keep my options open. So on second thought I decided to make applications to other different sectors of the business as well and that is when I found out about Tube Lines. After going to the website I learned more about the company and decided to make a placement application in Tube Lines and after working here for more than half a year I can say that it was a very good call. On my interview I was advised of the wide range of tasks I would be carrying out while I am at Tube Lines, which I found very appealing. The induction was a great way to kick start my year in industry with Tube Lines.”

“I was provided with the opportunity to work on a number of major ‘Cooling The Tube Programme’ projects, Installation of a giant Air Handling Unit (AHU) into the crown of the Tunnel at Charing Cross Station, during the design phase I was responsible for reviewing all the Mechanical, Electrical, Civil, Fire design documents I received from our consultants. In the installation phase I attended site every night during engineering hours to supervise work. Moreover I was in charge of all the day to day project management works which involved booking the protection staff who ensure a safe system of work has been provided and the booking of engineering trains.

“The installation of Cooling Systems in the ticket hall at Euston Station was one very challenging and interesting project where I was responsible for the day to day project management like liaising with the installation contractor and visiting the site on a regular basis to inspect and make sure that all works have been carried out according to Tube Lines approved Standards.

“I have worked on various Intermediate Works Projects such as the Station Upgrade Works at Tottenham Court Road Station. On this project we are transforming the whole station which of course is part of “We are transforming your tube” scheme.

“Within 6 months of my start I was asked to cover the duties of my Line Manager, while he would be on leave for three and a half weeks. In his absence I had to take care of his everyday tasks like liaising with consultants and senior Tube Lines Engineers regarding design queries, sit in regular meetings with senior managers within in the Department. Besides I was responsible for 5 other team mates and more than 40 odd projects. Although I was thrown into the deep end on occasions I am glad that it was done because I learned a lot from that.

“It feels good to think that I do play a part to keep the city moving. Tube Lines was a steep learning curve for me, the student placement programme at Tube Lines has offered me a platform of knowledge and experience which could lead me to a wide-ranging choice of prospects. If you want to gain invaluable skills in Technical and Project Management then Tube Lines is the place for you.”
